Dr Sheinman is a Consultant Chest Physician and currently Vice Chairman of the Wellington Hospital Respiratory unit
At the North Middlesex Hospital, Dr Sheinman is lead Clinician for Asthma and Allergies, runs the Asthma and Allergy service and has been appointed Clinical Lead for Outpatient Services.
In his additional role as Lead Clinician for Bronchoscopy, he has recently introduced and set up the advanced bronchoscopic technique of Endobronchial Ultrasound-Assisted Transbronchial Node Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) at the North Middlesex Hospital.
This is an important new technique which allows relatively non-invasive diagnosis of diseases of the chest which may involve the mediastinum (central part of the chest) and which have previously been inaccessible except by operative techniques. The use of EBUS-TBNA results in a substantial improvement in the Lung Cancer Pathway for patients by providing non-operative diagnosis and staging and it is also very useful in diagnosing a variety of chest disorders such as tuberculosis, sarcoidosis and lymphoma.
Dr Sheinman has set up a collaborative multidisciplinary team meeting for Interstitial Lung Diseases with St Georges Hospital, Tooting which liaises regularly with regard to discuss complex diseases involving the lung, is a regular participant in the North Middlesex University Hospital Trust Medical Admissions Unit and is responsible for general medical admissions to the hospital about one week in six.
Dr Sheinman is a regular representative for the Royal College of Physicians of London on Consultant Medical Appointment Committees in Respiratory Medicine, teaches medical undergraduates and postgraduates and lectures regularly to General Practioners.
Dr Sheinman was recently awarded an NHS Clinical Excellence Award by the North Middlesex Hospital University Trust.
