Dr Clive Onnie qualified at The London Hospital Medical School in 1996 with a distinction in medicine and a first class honours degree in pharmacology, and was proxime accessit to the University of London Gold Medal. Since then he has worked in several world leading hospitals including St Marks and Guys and St Thomas Hospitals. He undertook a Masters in Medical Science at the Hammersmith hospital in 2001 and completed a PhD at Kings College, London in the genetics of inflammatory bowel disease where he was awarded a Digestive Diseases Foundation Research Fellowship.
He was appointed Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust in 1997, as well as Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University College London Medical School.
He has published extensively in international peer reviewed journals including Nature Genetics and Gastroenterology as well as contributing to a book on inflammatory bowel disease.
He has ongoing research interests in the genetics of inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. His areas of expertise are in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, endoscopy (both colonoscopy and gastroscopy), as well as dyspepsia and reflux. He takes a holistic approach to the treatment of bowel problems, utilizing both conventional medicine and alternative approaches as well as the importance of diet.
