BIOGRAPHY
Mr Pawan Mathur qualified from St Thomas' Hospital Medical School in 1990. Following this he began research at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London and has been awarded an MS Thesis for his work on Colorectal Liver Metastases. In addition, he has spent time gaining specialist colorectal experience at St Mark's Hospital and on a one year programme in the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Singapore General Hospital. He is a keen endoscopist and has attended advanced training courses at the Wolfson Institute at St Mark's Hospital. He has been working as a consultant surgeon at Barnet General Hospital since April 2005. He continues to maintain an active interest in surgical research and continues to publish in peer reviewed journals.

Mr Mathur's main interests include colorectal cancer, colonoscopy, general coloproctology and laparoscopic surgery, but he has a wide experience in general surgery conditions. He has recently developed the laparoscopic colorectal service at Barnet Hospital and is proficient in all laparoscopic procedures (e.g laparoscopic hernia, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic incisional hernia repair). He is also the Lead Clinician for lower gastro-intestinal cancer at Barnet General Hospital and is a trainer for the stapled haemorrhoidopexy technique for prolapsing piles.

Mr Mathur appreciates that some of the symptoms associated with his specialty areas can be embarrassing but his approach to his practice is to create a welcoming atmosphere and to treat all patients with respect in a sympathetic manner. This minimises the discomfort patients feel and encourages a stress-free experience. He is also fluent in Hindi and has a working knowledge of Punjabi and Gujurati.
